Installation of People Counters in the Ilulissat World Heritage Area
To improve the management of the UNESCO World Heritage area in Ilulissat, we have now installed four people counters to monitor visitors’ movement patterns. These counters are strategically placed at:
- The boardwalk to Sermermiut
- The red route to Holms Bakke
- The old cemetery on the yellow route
- The entrance to the gorge on the blue route
Going forward, these counters will provide us with valuable data on how the area is being used. This information will assist in ensuring sustainable management of the trails and nature around Ilulissat Icefjord.
The last of the counters was installed on August 13, 2024, and from this date, data across the different routes can be compared.
We will regularly publish counter reports on our website, so those interested can follow the development of visitor numbers and movement patterns in the area.
