Research Teams and Projects

There is a more than 150 year history of carrying out research in the World Heritage Area Ilulissat Icefjord. This has resulted in a unique data bank of knowledge about climate changes and glacier movements. The glacier Sermeq Kujalleq is the most researched glacier brook in the world. This research has contributed to the understanding of the world’s glacier brooks in significant ways.

Present research projects in the Icefjord:

• Martin Truffer / Mark Fahnenstock. GPS measurements on the ice cap, the glaciers, and the icebergs, as well as photographic footage of movements.
• David Holland. Research into ocean currents and temperatures.
• Jason Fox. Camera surveillance of the movements of the ice.
